Huub den Rooijen

Director

United Kingdom

Huub sits on OEP’s Board of Directors.

Huub is a former managing director at The Crown Estate and Shell, with an operational background both in the private and public sector. Whilst at Shell, he led the delivery of the first offshore wind farms in the UK and the Netherlands in the early 2000’s. In doing so he learned a tremendous amount about the power of collaboration, the magic of innovation, and the amazing natural wealth of the marine environment. He joined the Crown Estate to deliver the world’s largest offshore wind leasing rounds, and founded industry-leading programs on offshore wind farm performance (SPARTA) and marine environmental protection (OWEC).

After retiring from operational roles, he is now active as board member and advisor, helping organisations strike the balance between economical, environmental, and societal interests. Educated as an astrophysicist, with an early career as a geophysicist, and a lifelong passion as a naturalist, Huub’s personal life spans the UK and the Netherlands.

He holds several positions including at the UK’s technology centre Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, Celtic Sea Power, at the World Bank, and at Westermeerwind, an operating offshore wind company in the Netherlands.
