Akihiko Kurashina joined OEP as Country Head, Japan in April 2024. He also concurrently serves as a Senior Advisor to GWEC.

Previously, he was Liaison Coordinator at Renewable Energy Institute in Japan and led government-industry roundtables on floating offshore wind. Prior to REI, he worked for Equinor and was involved in the 1st and 2nd public-private council on offshore wind in Japan. 

He also spent over 25 years at INPEX, working in London, Abu Dhabi and Jakarta on secondment to international operating companies and taking up leadership roles in various areas including corporate planning and project management. After returning to Japan, as a Tokyo-based executive, he continued to drive and implement various international projects. His contributions include the role as a Chairperson of the International Consortium meetings for a large offshore oil field development in Azerbaijan during the concession extension negotiation period. He also led Japan’s initiatives in manpower development of the host nation, working closely with the ministries and a Japanese university.

In his free time, he enjoys sailing, hiking, watching sumo and rugby and visiting galleries and museums.
